The Loose Cannons - I Like It When Ya...

Is it possible not to love a band that includes Kaiser Saucy and Lord Fader, particularly one that's got the same appeal as this mix of lowdown sex, dirty funk and electropop? Like the best bits of incidental music from Baz Luhrman's Romeo And Juliet - all those scraps of electronica, rap, pop and noise that failed to make it onto the soundtrack album - The Loose Cannons are closer to a South London version of the southern hip-hop of Outkast than anyone or anything else this side of the Atlantic as well as coming complete with the pop nous of Daft Punk without the repetition.

I Like It When Ya... is the follow up to The Loose Cannon's debut single, Superstars, and continues that earlier song's sleazy sound into shining pop. The bubble of analogue synths remain in the sound and there's a smart use of pop hooks to make sure that I Like It When Ya... - like much of the rest of The Loose Cannons' debut, Make The Face - is well qualified to be this year's best pop debut.
