Introducing Katie V
is the latest newbie to come under our 'introducing' microscope...
What's your earliest musical memory?
My earliest musical memory, hmmm... I remember sitting on my grandpa Jimmy Vogel's lap watching 42nd Street, the musical, in black and white. After it had ended, we both changed the lyrics to the song 42nd Street and replaced every other word with Katie!
If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?
I would LOVE to record with Etta James! I once sang on a microphone she had used and the technician had to pry me off of it! Freddie Mercury (I would invent a machine that would bring him back to life!) Mark Ronson , Paolo Nutini (his gravely voice makes my knees weak) and Otis Redding (again, I would need the time machine!)
You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who would you compare yourself to?
Etta James and Freddie Mercury's love child!
You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which albums do you take with you?
I am a huge fan of the Justin Timberlake album Justified, every song is brilliant! And Queen, FOR SURE!
Everyone has a defining music moment, one that lives on in the memory, what is yours?
Walking on stage to perform at The Royal Albert Hall. I was 20 and it was my first ever tour support. I felt such a huge sense of achievement and it’s a moment that I will never forget!
What is the best gig you've ever been to and why?
Definitely Prince! His show at the O2 in London was unmissable!
If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find?
Erm, I don’t really have anything embarrassing. However, I must admit I did download Madonna's greatest hits compilation recently, and partied on down with the 80's. But you've got to love a bit of retro!
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Touring the world! I love performing, so hopefully album two will be done by then.
How would you describe your debut EP, Songs From Under The Covers, to us?
A mini-adventure of huge emotions and statements.
What's next for Katie V?
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go... Always writing, working on my album, performing the EP on the date of its release, November 30, at the Zigfrid von Underbelly in Hoxton and preparing my UK Living room tour. You will have to go to www.katie-v.com to find the full answer to this question ;-)
