Crack House EP is the latest in dancefloor weaponry from Zinc’s revered and feared arsenal. A 10 track sampler bulging with his high energy take on the house genre, including features from Benga and Sweetie Irie . The few exclusive cuts from the release that have been let off so far are already receiving heavy rotation from DJs including Annie Mac, Sinden, Drop The Lime, Toddla T, Geeneus and Jack Beats, as Zinc marks his territory in pastures new with enviable success.
Zinc’s welcome into the house arena should come as no surprise. As one of the world’s most revered DJs, he’s armed with a wealth of experience of making people move. On top of that, as we move into 2010 dance music is at its healthiest state in decades with ravers and artists putting their fingers up at the genre police in their droves. People want a taste of everything at once, the warming bass of dubstep, the euphoria of electro house, the raw energy of jungle and feel-good release found in any music which compels you to jack your body. Chef Zinc lays out a buffet of all this and more with Crack House EP.
“I’ve always enjoyed house music but coming from a jungle background, I struggled to find house which had the raw energy which I crave... I took a year out from drum & bass DJ bookings to work on producing the type of house that I wanted to hear. It was a risk, but throughout my career my most successful tunes have come from producing what I enjoy rather than making something to fit squarely into a scene or a particular DJs record box. So that’s what I’m doing with this, I’m having fun and making exactly what I want to hear on the dancefloor.” – Zinc
With Zinc’s ‘Super Sharp Shooter’ featuring in the British Music Experience (a permanent exhibition at the 02 arena documenting pivotal British records), Zinc is undoubtedly best known as a leading light within the Jungle / D&B scene. However, he’s long shown a rebellious contempt for the perceived barriers laid down by genres, tracks like ‘138 Trek’ dropped well ahead of the curve and gave new breathing space not just to the Drum & Bass scene but also their surrounding cousins, such as garage and breaks. So it’s fitting symbolism that as Zinc sets sail to make waves in new oceans that he brings ‘138 Trek’ with him, this time reintpreted as ‘128 Trek’. What you’ll find on the ‘Crack House EP’ are 10 of this years finest cuts of peak-time underground music, designed to do the most base of music’s intentions, make you move and forget your worries. Welcome to the Crack House.
