Kevin Lyttle - Last Drop
Following up his debut release, Turn Me On, which charted in October 2003 but has dipped out and back into the charts since then, Kevin Lyttle mixes pop, R&B and Jamaican dancehall into something that, whilst not reggae, still has something undeniably Carribbean about it.
With Last Drop, Lyttle's own voice, which is smooth and light but missing passion, plays off a simple melody that's distinct from the dull beats of US R&B but misses the gruff rhythms of hip-hop and dancehall. Fair play to Lyttle if he makes it but there's the sound of too many concessions in this music, with Lyttle sounding far from Jamaica in pursuit of pop success. As a result, the song sounds lifeless and whilst Lyttle makes many of the right moves, he does so at the risk of being nobody's favourite.
