Wolves in the Throne Room: new vinyl
Just occasionally you stumble over something that's outside your own comfort zone. A record or a band from a genre that you normally overlook. Such is the case with Washington State's Wolves In The Throne Room, who take the basic black metal format and mix it with drones and fuzz worthy of Kevin Shields' most inspired moments.
And because we don't follow the genre, we've no idea when this came out - but note with excitement that it heralds a third album due for release this Spring.
Wolves In The Throne Room-"Malevolent Grain" 12" EP
Brand new vinyl only EP release from the grimm Cascadia black metal horde: Wolves In The Throne Room. 2 brand new songs (1 per side) that further solidify their death like grip on the jewel throne of American Black Metal. As with their mind blowing debut: "Diadem of 12 Stars", Jamie Meyers (Hammers of Misfortune) lends her beautiful voice to the track on Side A "A Looming Resonance".
The "Malevolent Grain" EP is the first to feature their new guitar player Will Lindsay (formerly of Middian) who had been the band’s touring bass player. The sound of this new recording blazes down similar paths as their past albums but seems to have even more depth and darkness than before.
Mailorder customers will receive the limited edition 180 gram vinyl "Dark Forest Green" (1k pressed) version. Amazing jackets with gold foil embossed logo on the full color jacket!
Winter Solstice 2008 saw the completion of their 3rd studio album, cryptically titled Black Cascade. Recorded onto 2 inch tape and mixed on a 1973 Neve Console by Producer Randall Dunn, this monolith of trance inducing psychedelia swings between passages of blazing crystalline blackness and ocean-deep ritualistic dronescapes. Black Cascade elevates Wolves in the Throne Room into the ranks of the elite in the extreme music world.
Black Cascade will be released by Southern Lord in the spring of 2009
The band will tour the United States and Europe extensively in 2009.
