Various (mixed by The Rapture) - Tapes
Synonymous with the punk-funk scene, The Rapture here deliver their debut mix album. The first half is heavy on boogie nights disco, with the high camp of I'm An Indian Too (which may as well be subtitled just like one of The Village People) sticking out as the guiltiest "pleasure". The remainder concentrates on house and includes big names such as Thomas Bangalter and Armand Van Helden. However, it's Paul Johnson's club anthem Get Get Down which lodges in the head and refuses to budge (again). Tapes is rounded out by a smattering of hip-hop, soul and funk selections (no indie or punk), but this rites of passage rarely rises above mildly diverting.
