Milosh - iii
Michael Milosh's third album was written and recorded during a year's stay on the Thai island of Koh Samui (a long way away from his native Toronto), where he was inspired particularly by isolation and water. These themes are reflected both in the delicate pitter-patter of the electronic backing tracks and his lyrics.
Musically, iii isn't on a different planet from Thom Yorke's The Eraser or Bjork's Vespertine. Although he lacks the authority of either of those artists, Milosh's falsetto, honeyed vocals, weaving in and out of the soundscapes, are fairly distinctive. There's a tangible atmosphere of dreamy melancholy, but, as every track seems to merge into the next, one must conclude iii is far prettier than it is gripping.
