Various - Global Gathering 2008

It may have been in full swing exactly a fortnight ago but, if you weren't there or simply want to relive the hazy memories, you could do worse than purchase this year's Global Gathering compilation for some summer dance tunes to combat the dreary weather.

Unlike previous editions, the regular three CDs have been condensed this year into two. This makes for a more streamlined effort, although one has to question why tracks by Axwell and Roisin Murphy, albeit in remixed form, appear for the second year running? However, you'll hardly mind when they're nestled in amongst gems like Underworld's Ring Road and Kissy Sell Out's superior take on Mark Ronson's Stop Me. Audio Bullys' Gimme That Punk is one blinding crossover that will appeal to the rock crowd but, with a tracklisting incorporating club faves from Dirty South to The Shapeshifters, this will surely satisfy any of those hardcore clubbers who wish they were back in the Godskitchen tent.
