Alphabeat - This Is Alphabeat

Denmark's Alphabeat first made their mark on the UK music scene with their breakthrough single "Fascination", a song that divided the population, many enjoying their unique take on 80's Pop, others finding their sugar coated sound a bit too sickly!
Alphabeat's debut album features more of the same, with an abundance of hooks littered throughout so wont appeal to "Fascination" haters but lovers of a good melody will be rewarded with a great collection of tracks featuring the duel vocals of Stine and Anders, with "10,000 nights", "Fantastic 6" and "What is happening" all fit to stand shoulder to shoulder with the hit single.
"This is Alphabeat" has been remixed and polished up for UK audiences, making it generally better than the original Danish release, however, a couple of songs lose their original excitement, with "Boyfriend" now featuring a mix that resembles a lost Stock, Aiken and Waterman track from the 80's and "Rubberboots" now dull and plodding.
There's still plenty to be had for anyone owning the import though as two new tracks show up with the glorious "Go Go", showing the funkier side of the band and one of the stand out songs of the album "Touching me, touching you", a track that channels the spirit of early Duran Duran throughout.
Another great addition to the UK release is a truly classic take on P.I.L's "Public Image", complete with whistling all the way through that will have old school Punks spitting in the gutter in disgust.
The band have certainly "made it their own" anyway!
With current single "10,000 nights" likely to make the same impression chart wise as "Fascination" the future of Chart Pop looks to be in safe hands for the foreseeable future...
