Nelly Furtado - Try
Like a pop version of Parker Posey - cool, attractive and a little indie but attracting mainstream cash - Nelly Furtado mixed pop, soul and daffodil folk on her debut before following it up late last year with Folklore. This time around, Furtado's sound has grown a little, possibly as a result of becoming a mother since the release of Whoa Nelly, but with the release of this ballad, her pop hooks sit back a little to be replaced by a more heartbreaking sound.
With Furtado saying that Try reflects, "...the reality of love. The idea here is that, yeah, sometimes life sucks...you just have to roll with the punches". Saying that, there's still a little hope in Try but this may not be the song for those who fell in love with Nelly about the release of Baby Girl. Try is haunting but with the kind of pop hooks shot through the chorus that made I'm Like A Bird such a hit.
