Sunflies !

Sunflies is a critically acclaimed Hertfordshire-based alternative rock band establishing a solid reputation in the UK for their electrifying live shows.

Career highlights to date include supporting 'The View' at Millennium Square in Leeds, whilst influences include The Cure, Nirvana, Muse, PJ Harvey and Joy Division, though things are also taking a turn for the Foo Fighters of late.

In the beginning, James Scott (guitar and vocals) teamed up with Joanna (vocals) and; together the duo’s tight harmonies (and tighter trousers) saw them rack up a succession of hits in the late-early 2000s after a video of their performance at ‘The Enchantment Under The Sea’ dance in 1955 turned up on YouTube - Yet there were elements missing; a fuller sound was sought – complete with bass and drums. The first sign of Salvation came in robotic form, when a chance visit to a car boot sale saw Scott pick up MATTY (Bass). Capable of holding the rhythm on bass at 600bpm whilst simultaneously playing the piano, MATTY seemed the perfect solution.

With the band once again heading in the right direction, a new ‘sticksman’ was seen as the final piece in the complicated 2000-piece jigsaw that makes up Sunflies. Responding to an advert for a lost dog, Chris (drums) turned out to be the perfect blend of jazzy tempos, psychotic rage and shadow puppetry, finally completing the band’s lineup.

So, after 89 years and an incomprehensible 265 lineup changes, Sunflies really are coming to get you. Expect tunes, noise, mayhem and diabolical Irish accents.

‘If Arcade Fire had a scuffle with Placebo, they'd form the hybrid that is Sunflies. The dark indie-rock band purvey a crunchy crescendo of vocal tenderness, with crashing guitars and subtle harmonies.’

NME

‘Sunflies were a class above the rest…they had that solid, polished sound you can only get from some serious hard work.’

VBAH MAGAZINE

‘Sunflies are dark and mysterious yet surprisingly infectious.’
