Various - Funky Nassau: The Compass Point Story 1980 - 1986
Located in The Bahamas, Compass Point Studios has attracted a wealth of artists since being founded in 1977 - and perhaps not just for Bacardi ad style escapades. Tied to these studios were such notable production talent as Sly and Robbie, Steve Stanley and Alex Sadkin, in addition to a house band. Hence why, despite featuring a range of acts (some well known, some not so), this compilation retains an overall coherence.
From the quirky pop of Tom Tom Club's Genius Of Love (referenced by Annie, murdered by Mariah Carey), through the tight funk of Talking Heads' Born Under Punches and the vaguely cheesy soul of Gwen Guthrie's Padlock, to the smattering of expected reggae tracks, these selections capture a definite sunny vibe. The laidback atmosphere is helped by mostly leisurely running times. However, this isn't quite the whole story; AC/DC, who recorded there during the same period, aren't included.
