Various (compiled by Groove Armada) - Late Night Tales

Were proof needed that drink and drugs relax musical inhibitions in addition to sexual and dancing ones, look no further than some hedonists' linking of Chris Rea with Ibiza. His Josephine (La Version Francaise) sits proudly on this entry in the Late Night Tales series, the second to be compiled by Groove Armada. In truth, if you can ignore your inner music snob for three minutes or so, it does conjur up images of balmy nights. The same, however, can't be said for Ace's How Long

These selections are in line with what you'd expect from Groove Armada, a duo concerned as much with popularity as credibility. Classic artists (e.g. Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Stevie Wonder) rub shoulders with more typical Balearic sunset music (e.g. Liquid People's Son Of Dragon, Andy Cato's edit of Will Young's Friday's Child) and a couple of "indie" inclusions (Midlake and Peter, Bjorn And John). The boys pick up few trainspotter points due to some tracks feeling rather well worn, but otherwise a pleasing mix.

N.B. The retail release includes a bedtime story courtesy of Will Self, not on this promotional CD.
