Calvin Richardson - I've Got To Move
Following on from the release of his second album, 2:35pm, Calvin Richardson releases I've Got To Move and unlike the ponderous grooves over the album, the single works well in isolation with Richardson tending to a mix of classic soul from both the sixties and seventies whilst avoiding many of the unnecessary hip-hop influences that litters modern soul, including many of the songs on 2:35pm.
Credit is due then to Calvin Richardson for admitting, on this one song at least, that his Baptist upbringing would sit ill at ease with the aggressive sound of hip-hop and, instead, has gone back to the sound of Marvin Gaye and Bobby Womack. Unlike much of the accompanying album, therefore, this single works a treat and it's ever a pity Richardson didn't have the convictions that led him to record this across the rest of 2:35pm.
This single release comes with Keep On Pushin', also lifted from 2:35pm, as well as remixes of I've Got To Move by Angmo and Drew K.
