Various - Disco Not Disco

According to the press release, this is the stuff, or at least the sort of stuff, that influenced LCD Soundsystem. So, yes, if you enjoyed the breadth of Sound Of Silver you'll possibly enjoy Disco Not Disco, which draws on everything from post-punk to early techno, and possibly a bit of disco.

I'm guessing much of the track listing (selected by Bill Brewster, author of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life) is pretty obscure. That said, Japanese trio Yellow Magic Orchestra are considered highly influential in the field of electronica, and their Seoul Music manages to sound both contemporary and unique. Other highlights include Vivien Goldman's Launderette, post-punk with a prominent bassline and tricksy percussion, and Material's Don't Lose Control, a proper slice of 80s electro heaven, all robot vocals and synths. Perhaps the most baffling (yet still welcome) entry is Isotope's Crunch Cake; quite how jazz-rock fusion fits with the rest of this may well be explained in the sleeve notes.

Disco Not Disco, while too experimental for wide appeal, makes for an interesting collision between art and hedonism.
