The Vines - Ride
Already showing signs of suffering from 'difficult second album syndrome' - Winning Days has had a bumpy critical ride from the release of the promo copies - The Vines have released this, the first single to be taken from the album due on the 22 March.
With the same loud-quiet-loud style that was all over their debut, which gained the band a few comparisons to Nirvana in their early days, Ride opens with a scratchy guitar, albeit with the kind of modern sheen that's closer to Elastica than Wire or The Gang Of Four, before kicking off into a explosive chorus. Whilst there's nothing here that will change your life, Ride is a good song and when compared to the touches of psychedelia and folk on the rest of the album, is a wise choice to be the first single to be taken off Winning Days.
