The Vincent Black Shadow - Islington Academy London
The Vincent Black Shadow are a five piece band from Vancouver.
The group are currently in the UK promoting their "Fear in the water" album and stopped off at London's Islington Academy to play a few songs.
The Vincent Black Shadow's Academy show saw them supporting two fairly heavy bands - Blessthefall and Silverstein who seemed a world away from the VBS's melodic approach to their music.
I'm sure no band wants to be first on the bill but The Vincent Black Shadow did their best to pull out the stops to win over the hardcore crowd.
Singer Cassandra Ford belted out tracks from the debut album alonside newer (?) material with the band of Kirkham brothers rocking out in their own formidable style.
The easiest way to describe the VBS's sound on record is No Doubt without the ska but that's a slightly unfair comparison as the band are very much their own thing too.
"Fear in the water" is a collection of very catchy Rock songs with a Pop mentality so I was slightly disappointed that the band didn't come across as well live, plodding on occasions when they should have sparkled.
That said it was still an enjoyable performance though I did feel that the band should have been playing to a more suitable audience.
Fans of bands like Paramore and The Sounds would lap The Vincent Black Shadow up so they should be concentrating their efforts in winning over a similiar crowd.
The band certainly did enough to have me returning to see them anyway, especially after great renditions of "Control" and "Metro".
The band are playing the following UK dates....
29th Nov Moshulu Aberdeen
30th Nov Leadmill Sheffield
1st Dec Cockpit Leeds
3rd Dec Sugarmill Stoke
4th Dec Charlotte Leicester
5th Dec Academy Birmingham
6th Dec Rock City Nottingham
