Alphabeat - Water Rats London

Alphabeat are a Danish Pop group featuring boy / girl vocals. With several top 5 hits back in their own country they are now trying to win over UK audiences starting with the usually hard to please London crowd.
This was my first opportunity to see the band play live.I had already caught up with their material listening to it online so it was one of the first shows in ages that I had been looking forward to before going.
Water Rats is a fairly intimate venue but a few of Alphabeat's fans had managed to squeeze down the front giving the band an appreciative and responsive front row.
The Danish 5 piece started their set with debut UK single "Fantastic 6" a song that begins like Sweet's "Blockbuster" fighting it out with the B52's "Planet Claire", settling in to an electro groove somewhere between CSS's "Let's make love..." and a male version of Fuzzbox's "International rescue".
The track is a slightly misleading introduction to the band as they are more Pop orientated, sounding not a million miles away from a marriage between High School Musical graduates and the Scissor Sisters on some songs and Prefab Sprout and Deacon Blue sitting in a room together, eagerly consuming huge bags of sugar, bouncing off the walls on others!
The band seemed to be having a great time with singer Anders happily banging away on his tambourine most of the set.Anders was joined on vocals by Stine, the boy /girl combination working extremely well throughout the performance.
Highlights of the all too short set were the previously mentioned "Fantastic 6", Album opener "10,000 nights of thunder" and set closer "Fascination", the song that kicked it all off for them back home.
"Fascination" was amazing as there was an exhilarating energy coming from the stage, leaving the audience shouting for more.

I'll certainly be returning to see the group in the near future.
