Sky Larkin - Molten

Spiky guitars? Check. Disinterested female vocal? Check. Occasional shouty bits? Check. It’s becoming increasingly clear that ubercool Leeds label Dance To The Radio are important for one reason and one reason only. That reason is, of course, Forward, Russia, so we’re prepared to forgive them, but Sky Larkin, one of the other bands on DTTR’s roster, have yet to prove, to me at least, that they’re worth anything. ‘Molten’ isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, I’ve heard far worse things, there’s some rather pleasantly Sonic Youth-ish bits here and there, and the B-side is quite nicely quirky. But there’s nothing here to make me sit bolt upright, with the hair on the back of my neck standing up, making me think that this is a record of vital importance. A pretty decent example of its genre, but nothing earth-shattering.
