Husky Rescue - Other World (Remixes & Rarities)

Only two albums into their career and Husky Rescue release a remixes and rarities (i.e. lots of b-sides plus three previously unavailable session tracks) compilation. Other World actually isn't a bad introduction to this excellent Finnish band, still virtually unknown in the UK.

The smoulderingly sexy Last Dance, for example, is one of those tracks you won't believe was thrown away as a b-side. Also here are effective twists on City Lights and Caravan. The wistful vocals are kept, but, in the hands of Vector Lovers and Serge Santiago respectively, the latter finds a new dreaminess and the former is set to bleeps 'n' beats. If not outstanding, acoustic versions of Sweet Little Kitten and New Light Of Tomorrow (with the now permanent Reeta-Leena Korhola replacing the male vocal) are nice enough to be of temptation to completists.

The downside is there are a number of redundantly dull remixes present, while two of their better, more dancefloor oriented makeovers - City Lights (Product.01's Crunch City Remix) and New Light of Tomorrow (Linus Loves Remix) - have been inexplicably left off.

Still, providing you're willing to use the skip button, Other World has enough trinkets and treasures to make it worth exploring.
