'Old Skool' Creamfields DJ to bring on the gramaphones!
'Old Skool' makes a return to Creamfields on August Bank Holiday weekend, only slightly older than you may think. Naomi Kashiwagi will be performing in this year's new Residents Bar alongside the likes of Cream residents Andy Mac and Gareth Wyn. Taking old skool to the extreme, Kashiwagi will be using a pair of wind-up gramaphones and some old 78's for her exclusive set.
Naomi, who studied fine art at Manchester University and was shortlisted for the nationwide Mercury Art Prize in 2005, will be making her festival debut at the dance event in Daresbury, Cheshire. She first
performed her unique 'Wind Up' set as part of Sonic Arts Network Expo in 2006. Expect an eclectic mix, some of Naomi's favourite records being 'Rock Around the Clock' by Bill Haley and the Comets, 'In the Mood' by Glen Miller Orchestra and the Pinky & Perky theme tune!
In her own words: "Gramaphones have now been replaced by more advanced technologies and are therefore obsolete. The 78rpms are no longer made and therefore represent a specific era. People are intrigued at what is involved, so rather than just listening to the music, many people like to watch the process of winding the gramaphones, changing the needles and changing the records. Its my take on DJing giving them a new modern function as turntables and I'm really looking forward to DJing at Creamfields, winding it up for the weekend with 1940's and 1950's classic dance music to get the crowds rockin' around the clock."
Intriguing, no? To catch Naomi K winding it up, as well as some of the world's biggest DJs and electronic acts, you can purchase your Creamfields '07 tickets (£57.00 plus booking fee) online at www.ticketline.co.uk/ or by phoning the Cream Ticketline 0870 242 7326.
