Client - Drive

Anyone remember defunct 90s act Dubstar? Vocalist Sarah Blackwood didn't end up opening a tea shop, working for the council or becoming a landscape gardener, but decided to take a second bite at the fame cherry in Client, now about to release their third album.

Drive is decent glum-faced electro-pop, although whether it's quite distinctive enough to nudge its way to the front of all the similar stuff (Goldfrapp, Dragonette, etc) out there is debatable. In any case, the original is overshadowed by the remixes on this promo disc. The Boosta Dobro Love mix emphasises dark guitar noise under the vocal instead, vaguely recalling Death In Vegas' gothy wanderings. Of the remaining two, both designed for the dancefloor, Eyerer and Namito's is the more sonically-satisfying and coolly strips the vocal back to the bit about "white lines". Don't do it, obviously.
