Melissa Auf Der Maur - Followed The Waves

Melissa Auf Der Maur has a very fine curriculum vitae in the form of bass-player stints with Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins, and now her self-financed labour of love – her own solo album, releases its first single and finds itself in unfortunately direct competition with that other prominent Hole member, Courtney Love herself.

Followed The Waves is a good rock-heavy introduction to Ms. Auf Der Maur’s solo-repertoire, confirming that she herself has just as much right to launch into the raunchy rock market as Love lays claim to, and whilst Courtney relies on gimmicky lyrics and borrowed riffs, you can sense the effort from Melissa from every layer on the record. Utilising old friends such as Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Chris Goss (who also co-producer), Followed The Waves is a good reason to seek out the debut album Auf Der Maur.
