Amazon launch a new high quality music streaming platform - Amazon Music HD

Tidal has some competition in the HD music streaming space thanks to the launch of Amazon Music HD. Amazon's new streaming platform promises access to 50 million songs that are at a minimum double the bitrate of other services. They also have a significant portion available in Ultra HD with a bitrate TEN times higher.

Amazon promise that all tracks on the service will offer lossless audio at 850kbps at a minimum offering 16 bit 44.1 kHz playback, rising to 3730 for those that are available in Ultra HD at 24-bit 192 kHz.

For comparison Google Play Music offers 320 kbps across their library and iTunes maxes out at just 256 kbps.

To see if the increased fidelity makes a difference to you, Amazon are offering a 90 day free trial with the monthly cost for a single user being £12.99 per month or £19.99 for a family plan with up to six members. There are annual plans available as well offering a discount.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
