Various - Ministry of Sound Sessions: Cajmere vs Green Velvet

The ninth entry in the Ministry of Sound Sessions series is a vehicle for the split personality of one Curtis Jones, a presence on the U.S. dance scene since the early 90s.

As Cajmere on CD1, he delivers a house mix with plenty of jackin’ beats, soulful vocals and jazzy touches. He Is even nods to gospel. Although betraying the occasional sign of madness here (see Old Man Groan), the Green Velvet mix (CD2) is where things get mental. The equivalent of Norman Osborn slipping on the Green Goblin mask, it finds Jones indulging a love of acid noise, pumping techno and his own bizarre vocals (see Flash and - his most famous track - La La Land), while making room for current biggie, Put Your Hands Up For Detroit.

It’s an odd pair (and pairing) of CDs, perhaps best suited to those who know what they‘re getting into.
