Download Festival 2019 - Friday

Drownpour, Drownload and all other punny names are all valid at this year's Download Festival, the premier Rock and Metal festival held every year at the start of June at its spiritual home, Castle Donington. Its rained pretty much solidly since the camping gates opened on Wednesday. Its been noted elsewhere in the media (rather egregiously) that people are already leaving due to the conditions for various reasons and the conditions are getting worse but this music fan won't be going anywhere. Day One....lets go!

The first band to see on the Dogtooth stage are Bridgend boyos Those Damn Crows with their blend of classic rock n' roll, the tent is packed and it's a sign these Welsh band of brothers are building a following that will follow them to the ends of the earth.

Conjurer are a band that rather than being whispered about in the circles are starting to find a voice and their hardcore audience pack the tent showing that British metal and rock is in fine hands. Their set pulls from recent album Mire and it showcases where their heads are at and where they will be going in the future.

Whitesnake are back on the stage they last pranced about on 10 whole years ago in 2009. David Coverdale is in fine voice showcasing the songs he's been peddling for the best part of 40 years. A quintessential frontman of the 80's variety Coverdale sings the songs he wants to sing and sing only. Everybody else is waiting for the one song they all know and love, which is pulled out of the bag, the drum solo though can probably be left back in the 80's, we think it's still going on right now.

Headlining the Friday are Def Leppard who were at the height of the game way back in the 80's (there's a theme here somewhere) who are showcasing the 'Hysteria' album in full which they brought to UK arenas at Christmas last year. The setlist is the same and so is the sheer professionalism emanating from the stage. Each and every musician knows how to work the crowd who are ecstatic for all the hits including 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Animal' and 'Armageddon It'. 10 years ago they headlined this stage and are once again good value for the huge crowd.
