Paolo Nutini - Jenny Don't Be Hasty
If you'd told me back in April, when I first got sent Paolo Nutini's song These Streets that five months down the line we'd have a serious money-spinning top ten album artist, I'd have thought you crazy. Atlantic have obviously sunk a lot of money into this young Scottish artist, and its clearly paid off - all major radio networks are playing him, most TV shows are booking him, and he's even played a couple of premier festivals as well. And to keep up the momentum, single number two, a far perkier number that the last one, but a song that is actually pretty ordinary.
Whilst bouncing along at a fair pace with some nice crunchy guitar, the lyrics are pretty naff and the echoed handclaps add little appeal, rather like the gruffness of his voice. It seems his strength lies in quieter, more acoustic moments, and not in this sort of fake pop/rock.
