Download 2019 - Songs we HAVE to hear.
Download Festival 2019 is mere weeks away before you know it, you'll be surrounded by like-minded
people metal and rock brothers and sisters waiting to see your favourite bands and hoping beyond hope that your favourite artist or band plays that one favourite song you have to hear. You know the one that takes you back to a time in your life when you heard the song for the first time or a favourite song that bonded you with first love, THAT song. So let's dive in and find out what song we HAVE to hear at Download Festival 2019.
Gimme The Keys - Clutch
The Maryland stompers are back once again after a set in 2017. Latest album Book of Bad Decisions showed the road-hardened band doing what they do best, groove-inflected bar room brawling, good ol' fashioned rock n' roll. Neil Fallon and his band of merry men play the Friday.
The Heart From Your Hate - Trivium
After a bit of a bumpy rife with previous releases, Download legends Trivium are back to doing what they do best, producing hard-hitting Metal with plenty of melodies. With the stability of new drummer Alex Bent and vocalist Matt Heafy returning to full-throated screaming, the band rightfully reclaim their spot at the head of the table or the main stage if you will. 'The Heart From Your Hate' showcases the melody, the return of the Heafy scream and literally the heart that lies at the centre of their latest record The Sin and The Sentence.
All Out Life - Slipknot
Returning to headline the Main Stage on Saturday are Ohio legends Slipknot. Having recently announced that their untitled new record will be out on August 9th the chance of hearing new music from it is slim but this track released late last year should be primed and ready to go. The opening ever so Slipknot low-end hum, the pounding percussion from Clown and Jay Weinberg are sure to level the Donington site like never before. If their headline sets in 2009 and 2014 are anything to go by we are in for a treat!
Schism - Tool
At this point Tool haven't played a show in the UK since their last record 10,000 Days came out in 2006, all of 13 years ago. We are starting to get into Guns N' Roses territory here in terms of having been away. Luckily Tool, fronted by enigmatic front man Maynard James Keenan, are back with a new record announced for August 30th, it would be good to hear new material but also dive into the majesty that is 'Schism' from 2001 album Lateralus.
Raining Blood - Slayer
All good things must come to an end and nothing screams Metal quite like Slayer, the Oakland thrash band who are currently on their final World Tour. Headlining the Zippo Encore Stage for the final time, and gracing the hallowed turf of Donington one last time, the set will be a historic career ending show that all who worship rock and metal must watch and give tribute to. All together now "Raining blood, across a lacerated sky..."
