Tangerine Dream announce a monster 18-disc 'Ultra Deluxe' boxset!

Tangerine Dream have announced 'In Search of Hades: The Virgin Recordings 1973-1979' - a mammoth 18 disc set that includes 16 CDs and 2 Blu-rays. It is set for release on 14th June.

In addition a more conventional single CD release of seven of their classic albums, remastered, is also coming on the date. Each CD will include access to the streaming edition of the album along with a selection of bonus tracks from the boxset.

Loved and revered worldwide for many decades, Tangerine Dream were true pioneers of ambient and electronic music. Their influence is massive – and the albums they recorded for Virgin Records between 1973 and 1979 remain classics. This box set is the definitive statement of this period in their history.

The albums ‘Phaedra’, ‘Rubycon’, ‘Ricochet’, ‘Stratosfear’, ‘Encore’, ‘Cyclone’ and ‘Force Majeure’ are all present and newly remastered in stereo – from the original first-generation master tapes.

The box set also includes two Blu-Ray discs featuring new 5.1 surround sound versions of ‘Phaedra’, ‘Ricochet’ and the full soundtrack to ‘Oedipus Tyrannus’ – all mixed by the esteemed musician/producer Steven Wilson.

Visual Blu-Ray material included is the surviving 35-minute footage of the BBC’s Tangerine Dream concert at Coventry Cathedral, and the previously unreleased fascinating full German television documentary ‘Signale aus der Schwäbischen Strasse’, which features Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Peter Baumann performing live, plus interviews with the band, John Peel and Richard Branson.

Further stereo audio content featured are full concerts at The Victoria Palace Theatre, London, The Rainbow Theatre, London and the Royal Albert Hall, London, plus an audio-only version of the BBC Coventry Cathedral concert.

Last but not least are two CDs of stereo out-takes from the ‘Phaedra’ sessions at The Manor Studios, Oxfordshire.

The 'Ultra Deluxe Box Set' includes:

  • 8 CDs & 2 Blu-Rays of previously unreleased audio and video content
  • 68-page hard-back book containing new essay and unseen photographs
  • Sleeve notes (written by renowned Dutch writer and TD expert Wouter Bessels) include quotes from Edgar Froese and Steve Joliffe, plus contributions by Steven Wilson
