The Dears - Ticket to Immortality
The Dears are one of those bands which I heard a few years ago, listened to the album a fair amount, but then they merged into obscurity and I didn’t hear from them for a while, regardless of the music being pretty good. Their last album, no cities left, despite the amount of re-releases it got, and sheer amount of critical acclaim never really managed to get to the dizzy heights that it deserved, even with a storming performance at SWSW a few years ago, it failed to inspire the audience enough to break it into the big time, while still keeping a somewhat dedicated fan base.
So, I was pretty glad to hear that they had a new single and album out, and thankfully the first single from the album doesn’t disappoint.
In very much the style we’re accustomed to from the Canadian 6-piece, they continue the expressive vocals of lead singer Murray Lightburn, and the expansive faux-orchestral sound from the rest of the band.
Playing the V festival this summer, they’ll also be special guests to The Editors in Edinburgh's Corn Exchange on Monday, August 21st as part of the T on the Fringe Festival. The full list of live dates is:
19th STAFFORD, V Festival
