Various - Jazz For Dinner

Starting with that rarest of things - a Corinne Bailey Rae track that doesn't beg to be switched off -, Jazz For Dinner is a safe and tasteful saunter through mostly well known tunes. There's a decent mix of styles and vintages here. Indisputable classics My Funny Valentine and Feeling Good rub shoulders with St Germain's Rose Rouge and Bent's remix of Billie Holiday's Speak Low (the latter in particular exuding a chilled Café del Mar vibe). One will no doubt debate the quality of some of the more current vocalists, but honey-toned Madeleine Peyroux's cover of Bob Dylan's You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go stands up rather well; certainly better than The Puppini Sisters' version of Panic, which may inspire fans of The Smiths to do nasty things to the crockery.

Also available in the series is Classics For Dinner.
