"It’s full of the funniest, most genuine folk you’ll ever meet" My hometown by Orla Gartland

Hey Orla, thanks for answering our questions about your hometown. Obvious question first, where is your hometown?

Dublin, Ireland

What’s the best thing about your hometown?

It’s full of the funniest, most genuine folk you’ll ever meet. Irish people are the best people!

What’s the worst thing about Dublin?

Hmmmmm. That’s hard. For me personally, I struggle to be productive or do much work when I’m home, because all I want to do is go to gigs and drink pints with my friends. But I mean, that’s not a tragedy.

What’s the strangest fact you know about your hometown?

‘Dublin’ comes from the Gaelic ‘Dubh Linn’ which translates as ‘Black pool’. Weird.

Who’s the most famous person from there?

Hmmm. U2?! Such a predictable answer though. Let’s go with Conor McGregor.

What’s the town most famous for?

A super vibrant music scene, some gorgeous castles, the best pubs on the planet.

Who’s the town’s biggest sports team?

You’re asking the wrong person here really. Not a clue.

Where’s the best place to eat?

Nightmarket for Thai food, Piglet for Tapas, Independent Pizza for PIZZA.

Where’s the best place to grab a coffee?

Kaph in Drury Street is fab, loads of other spots around town now. Dublin does coffee right!

Where’s the best place to have a great beer / glass of wine / cocktail?

The cocktail bar in Drury Buildings is ace. Doyles is my favourite spot for everything else..such a good buzz there.

Where’s the place to go when you want to have fun?

Doyles again is great for a pub night and they host The Ruby Sessions on a Tuesday which is a great spot for discovering new music. I’m not a big club gal.

Where’s the place to go when you want some peace and quiet?

Escape the city centre and go for a walk in Howth or Pheonix park.

What’s the single best reason to visit?

THE CRAIC.
