CMA Songwriters Series returns to the UK
A bastion of the US country scene, the CMA Songwriters Series is returning to the UK this October. It's already a fixture on the unofficial opening night to C2C Country To Country, and toured the UK independently in 2017. The line-up for this October is genuinely brilliant, and again shows the UK leading the way in balancing up the gender issue that is a constant talking point in country music.
Returning to the UK is Ashley Campbell, and if you've seen any of her previous shows you'll know how good she is. She also brought tears to the eye at the recent Black Deer Festival during a songwriter round there, so bring tissues. You can read our interview with Ashley now, as part of our Women In Country month.
The least known of the quartet making up the artists is Chris Destefano. You might not know the name but you have definitely heard the songs: Carrie Underwood's mega-smash 'Something In The Water', 'Little Toy Guns', 'Somethin' Bad'; Luke Bryan's 'Kick The Dust Up and 'My Kind Of Night', and songs for Jason Aldean, Brett Eldredge, Billy Currington, and others. It's the stories behind these songs that will deliver a specialness to the tour.
Two of the most anticipated records of 2018 (though neither have been confirmed) will come from Kassi Ashton and Tenille Townes. You might have heard of Ashton through her amazing debut single 'California, Missouri', or the Natalie Hemby/Luke Dick written 'Taxidermy'. She's fresh and edgy, real, and the future of modern country.
Townes' debut release was the lower key Living Room Worktapes EP which focused on her songwriting and vocals. Where Ashton packs a wallop, Townes is more likely to caress your ears. The full production version of 'Somebody's Daughter' is a lip-smacking taster for what to expect come October. You can read our interview with Tenille now, as part of our Women In Country month.
The dates for the shows are:
Oct. 16 Glasgow, St. Luke’s
Oct. 17 Liverpool, St. George’s Hall
Oct. 18 Gateshead, Sage Two
Oct. 20 Manchester, RNCM
Oct. 22 London, O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire (part of Country Music Week 2018)
All shows are seated
