Andrew WK - Cardiff University

Did Andrew W.K. dream, back when he released his debut album, I Get Wet, that he’d still be making music and touring in those dirty white jeans two decades later?

It seemed even to those who loved him from the start, this might not have been the case. Kicking off his UK tour in Cardiff, W.K. brought the party to a room of like-minded individuals who were all chanting ‘PARTY, PARTY, PARTY’ from the moment they entered the venue.

Brighton’s Yonaka opened and brought their own fun to the party, acknowledging that they knew everyone was there to get excited for the headliner. By no means was their performance not worth watching, but it's hard to imagine who would be exactly right to get the party started for W.K. Providing the perfect mix of heavy riffs, thunderous drums and tough vocals that will worm its way into your brain for weeks to come, we expect to hear more from Yonaka in the near future.

When Andrew W.K. took the stage in his trademark white outfit and prepared with a full band, the crowd were clearly ready. He knows exactly what fans want, which is unarguably anthems from his debut album, I Get Wet. This album has grown to become a classic over time with fans knowing the words to every song, evidenced throughout his set as the words to every song were chanted back.

Performing a mixture of old classics and savage new material, songs such as 'Music Is Worth Living For' and 'Break the Curse' went down a storm, leaving W.K speechless as the crowd even sang back the words from his latest releases.

Proving throughout his set that he’s still is a bonafide performer and that nothing has changed after all these years, his performance is consistently upbeat and raw. He's worth seeing even if you've never heard a single song before and by the end of the night, there's hardly any doubt anyone in the crowd won't be converted. He strikes at a nerve that has never been more needed and is well worth experiencing live. The only hope is that there is more music still to come in the future.
