"UK ROCK CITY!" - catch pop-punkers Shonen Knife's new live album and UK tour
Hopefully you know all about legendary pop-punkers Shonen Knife (every press release from the last few decades reminds us Kurt Cobain really really really loved them). For those who don’t, the Osaka (Japan's rock city) trio's forthcoming live album, ALIVE! In Osaka on Good Charamel Records is a very good excuse to catch up.
The album’s live aspect is important. WXPN’s video below shows they’re the happiest band you'll ever see. As if lead singer and all-round boss Naoko’s favourite band The Beatles never disappeared into their studio to record their fancy later albums, and played with even bigger smiles on their faces.
Please catch Shonen Knife on their remaining UK tour dates, where you can make your mates jealous by getting their live album ahead of its 4 May release date. More details with tour dates below the fold.
Japan’s legendary punk pop princesses; SHONEN KNIFE, will be releasing ALIVE! In Osaka via Good Charamel Records in North America, Europe and The UK on May 4th 2017.
The DVD/CD package was recorded live at Juso Fandango in Osaka, Japan in December of 2017 and includes 21 tracks from the band’s 3+ decade long career as Japan’s most loved Indie rock import.
Featuring classics such as “Twist Barbie”, “Bear Up Bison” and “Sushi Bar Song”, newer tracks like “Jump Into The New World” and “Rock N Roll Tee Shirt” as well as a cover of Nick Lowe’s classic “Cruel to be Kind”, the band is captured in their true element, entertaining fans in the city that made them who they are today.
ALIVE! In Osaka will be released as a limited edition CD/DVD set, and will also be available digitally in audio and video formats for streaming and download.
Shonen Knife has enjoyed sharing their ever-evolving career for decades, touring the world with rock royalty such as Nirvana, Sonic Youth, BMX Bandits and Redd Kross. After 36 years, the band still receives rave reviews from outlets like Noisey who said, "Japan’s Shonen Knife certainly aren’t acting their age... Full of shimmering girl group melodies and immediately hummable guitar lines, 'Jump Into The New World' will make you leave you bummers behind"
With incendiary and icon-building appearances on Lollapalooza, MTV’s 120 Minutes, Beavis & Butthead as well as a well-received tribute to The Carpenters where they covered "Top of the World", Shonen Knife have secured their rock solid cult status as they march into the future.
