"Choosing songs for this record came down to whether the song moved me, emotionally and physically" We chat with Stephanie Quayle
Hey Stephanie, how the devil are you doing?
I’m so good I feel like even my hair is smiling!
Where are you right now?
I’m in my hotel room in Connecticut on my radio tour for my new single 'Selfish'. I’ll be headed to the radio station shortly to go on air and Quayle-ify them all!
What have you been up to today?
I woke up about an hour ago, made myself some hotel coffee and spending this time with you! It’s 6am here.
What can you tell us about Love The Way You See Me in two sentences?
If you want to know me as a songwriter, artist, and person, this album is the roadmap to my heart. This album is for our fans, our Flock of Quayle; it’s for you.
If people could only listen to one track from record, which would you suggest? And why?
Mean question...I say this with love. I would create a medley of them all! If I had to narrow it down, it would be a medley of 'Drinking With Dolly', 'Ugly' and 'Selfish'. And then find a way to make sure the listener could listen to the rest. Yep, I can’t choose.
How did you go about choosing which songs to record for your record?
Choosing the songs for this record came down to whether or not the song moved me, emotionally and physically. Only then was it worthy to be heard by the Flock of Quayle. If I’m not moved, how can I expect the fans to be?
What can you tell us about your latest single, ‘Selfish’?
I wrote 'Selfish' with Tori Tullier & Andy Wills. It’s honest, straight out of the pages of my life. I wanted more time with the one I love and I think all of us can relate to that. We took what is typically a negative word and put a positive spin on it. The reaction to this song is currently blowing my mind.
I love ‘Shoebox’, I’ve literally got one in my cupboard with lots of memorable items in from over the years, what’s your most treasured item?
My letter from Dolly Parton. Just saying those words out of my mouth makes me wanna cry happy tears.
If you were drinking with Dolly, which of her songs would you play on the jukebox?
'Jolene', '9-5', 'Why’d You Come In Here', 'Here You Come Again'...
Can you explain to us Brits what a Winnebago is, and why it’s such an American icon?
Love this question! A Winnebago is a RV -- a Recreational Vehicle. The lyric, “everywhere you go, you’re already at home,” is all about taking your home on wheels out on the road. Mobile living! The company Winnebago just celebrated 60 years in business which means people all over the world love this mobile lifestyle. You get to see the country, stop and stay wherever you like, decide where you’re going anytime you want. It’s the ultimate in freedom, traveling and making your own adventure.
When was the last time you were starstruck?
Meeting Lady Gaga after I had performed for the five former U.S. Presidents at the One Americal Appeal Hurricane Relief Concert. We had a moment.
Can you tell us the best and the worst thing about your hometown?
The best thing about my hometown, Bozeman, MT, is the moment we touch down or drive in. An overwhelming peace comes over me. The worst thing is having to leave.
You grew up on a bison farm, what was the hardest thing about growing up on a farm?
I never thought about it being hard because it was what we did. I didn’t love cleaning the chicken coop but I loved the chickens and gathering the eggs. Isn’t that just like life...I’ve never used that analogy before.
You’re heading over to the UK for C2C (Country To Country), what in particular are you looking forward to about your visit?
Performing for my fans, meeting them in person. We are fortunate that we get to commmunicate through social media but I love hugs and can’t wait to see them all! This will be my first time performing in London. My heart is dancing with excitement.
What’s the best thing about being out on the road?
The people; their stories; and how the songs have touched their lives.
And the worst?
Insomnia because I’m so excited!
Who else would you recommend that’s playing at C2C?
I love Ashley McBryde. Definitely go see Midland - they are my pals so if you haven’t seen them you must. I don’t think you can go wrong to be honest! So many extraordinarily talented peeps!
What’s the question we should have asked you today but haven’t?
Ha...I was going to say, what do you put in your coffee...no kidding...but that’s your next question.
How about… Ed Sheeran just called and he wants to know if you’d like to do a duet?!
Finally, how do you take your coffee?
With Grass Fed Ghee Butter and Coconut oil. Bulletproof coffee.
