"Brixton is such an incredible venue" A chat with Kodaline
Ahead of a small(ish) pre-Christmas tour, and the release of their third album sometime in 2018 Vinny from Irish rock-poppers Kodaline chatted music quality, EPs, and Chance The Rapper.
What have you been up to today?
We started a little run of UK shows on Friday, so just at pre-production.
What can you tell us about your recent EP?
We wanted to release something before our third album to give people a taste of what's to come, and EPs are great as there's no pressure.
You’ve got a show at Brixton Academy coming up, what can people expect?
This is our second time playing Brixton and it's such an incredible venue, so we can't wait. I guess people can expect just a good time!
It sold out, how does that feel?
It's always great to sell out a show no matter where it is, so yeah good!
What’s the best thing about touring?
Getting to travel and see new places, and meet new people. It's amazing.
And what’s the biggest pain in the backside out on the road?
It's hard to complain when you get to play music for a living, it's kinda a dream "job". But I guess being away from your partner and family.
What can you share about album number three?
Nothing really. We're keeping it all very hush, but there will be new songs.
Does how people listen to music these days matter? For example, Spotify not being near CD quality, or people using Apple earbuds which are just horrible. Or are you happy for people to just hear you guys?
It's just the way things are going. We don't change our process or how we make music, and I guess if people want to hear better quality music you can. It's become so consumable that most people don't care. We'd obviously like people to hear our music as we intended, but it comes down to what's convenient for the listener.
You’re from Dublin, what’s the best thing about it?
And the worst?
How’s your 2017 been?
Pretty amazing! I got married and we've been working on the new album.
What’ve you got coming up in 2018?
The new album and lots more touring.
If you could only listen to one song this week, what would it be?
Chance The Rapper - 'Blessings'
What’s the question we should have asked you today but haven’t?
Who's my style icon?
Finally, how do you take your coffee? (Or alcohol?)
Black, and a G&T.
