Ashley Beedle presents The London Heavy Disco Revue - The Balloon Room

This release on new imprint Out Hear Recordings is the first in a series of EPs in which Ashley Beedle (one third of X-Press 2) plans to indulge his love of "great black music".

On the A-side, at least if you're listening on vinyl and not to an mp3, Ashley and The London Heavy Disco Revue pay tribute to 70s disco with The Balloon Room. It's funky, carefree and string-laden, yet falls somewhat short of distinguished. On the b-side, Height and its alternative version continue the 70s vibe. Here, sunny, jazz-flecked soul is built on a beautifully laidback groove. The effect is perhaps less instant, but is more likely to leave a lasting impression.
