Dead Disco - The Treatment
Already crowned as "Leeds electro glamourpusses" by the NME, Dead Disco formed in August 2005, and have built up quite a reputation. This, their debut release, is coming out on a limited edition 7", ahead of their follow up single due to be released by Fierce Panda in June.
There is a real energy to this song, straight from the fantastic jangly guitar opening. It's indie pop with plenty of bite, a mature vocal from Victoria Hesketh that brings in Blondie, The Bangles, The Rapture and a dash of Kenickie. Its the sort of track that makes you want to get on the dancefloor, full of hooks and humming keyboards. The guitars grind and sparkle and the drums sound assured. All in all, a great little song.
Shame I can't say the same about the flipside, an extremely dull mix of the A-side that takes most of the good stuff out and just meanders along getting more and more annoying. The only thing it has going for it is that it is shorter than the original. This is a pity and I would have much preferred to hear another track to get a better idea of what Dead Disco are like.
So yes, nice single, shame about the b-side. A band to watch out for though.
