Various - Atlantic Jaxx Vol 2

The Atlantic Jaxx compilation series is given over to music released on the label of the same name. That this label is run by Simon and Felix from Basement Jaxx should give you some idea of what to expect.

Indeed five of these tracks are Basement Jaxx recordings, and for the main part showcase the duo at their best. City People and U Took My Love find them in full-blown carnival house mode, while Get Down Get Horny is deeper and sexier (and a good partner to Yen Sung's similar Do You (Deep Dub 1)). Unfortunately, We R Computa, a shot at something more Kraftwerkian, right down to the robotic vocals, is close to embarrasing. Likewise, Housebreakerz' Help Myself, a clumsy attempt at hooligan house. While not as plain bad, the soul inclusions (by Phil Linton and Gwyn Jay Allen) are rather dreary.

Equal parts colourful and dull, Atlantic Jaxx Vol 2 should still be of use to Basement Jaxx fans, especially those missing the band's own material here.
