King Creosote - Not One Bit Ashamed

Building on last year’s critically acclaimed KC Rules OK, new single Not One Bit Ashamed finds King Creosote taking the moral high ground and bidding a not-so-fond farewell to a love turned sour. The woozy homespun folk strum and lazy Hammond of the intro melt away into a rousing resilient crescendo eerily reminiscent of Radiohead’s High and Dry. However, it’s the lyrics’ catalogue of a relationship imbalance that really shine here, painfully documenting where it all went wrong with a clarity that only hindsight can bring: “I gave up half of my heart/ And you gave a half-hearted shrug./ It’s not good enough”.

Bolstered by a longer album edit, a stripped down piano led Modlang remix and a new track - the stark Acquaintance - Not One Bit Ashamed is an impressive window into King Creosote’s world. Simultaneously vulnerable and stoic, this well crafted anthem unveils a special songwriting talent.
