Creeper - Eternity, In Your Arms

The UK's very own Creeper finally release their debut album Eternity, In Your Arms after a slow and steady release schedule of EP's and live shows. The Southampton based band have built up a fan base with effective use of intrigue, backstory and just plain great songs. With the release of 2015's The Callous Heart and 2016's The Stranger showing a strength in both songwriting and musical ambition, fans were chomping at the bit for the release of a full length. High standards had been set, happily the quality has continued with a rounded and broad sonic landscape evident across these eleven tracks.Starting with the pensive keys and voice of keyboardist Hannah Greenwood, opening track ‘Black Rain’ sucks you into the world of the Creeper backstory. What's immediately evident, is how strong the complete package is. On previous releases Greenwood’s voice and keyboards were less utilised, nhere they are front and centre, beautifully complementing lead singer Will Gould's powerful, Glenn Danzig style vocals.Eternity, In Your Arms doesn't hang around either, short, sharp blasts of pop-punk one moment, dark pensive introspective stompers the next. Stand out tracks ‘Misery’, kept over from The Stranger EP, is a masterpiece; one that is going to be hard to top with its sparse use of guitars and a showcase moment for Gould to open his lungs and use his masterful voice to it’s full potential. That’s topped on the biggest but most simple of tracks ‘Crickets’, a country tinged song showcasing Greenwood’s delicate vocals and how it effectively complements a stinging violin throughline.Having only been a band for three years, the rest of the band across the record are tight and sound fantastic. Clear drums, bass and duel guitar attack bring the best out of each and every song. After a strong showing in 2016 something is stirring with the UK rock scene, and Creeper are at the forefront of this. Long may it continue.

A blistering, varied album from debutante's Creeper. Be here now, before they explode.
