M83 Finish Work on New Album
M83 have wrapped production on a new LP, due in 2016. It will be the electronic band’s first regular studio album since 2011’s 'Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming' propelled them into mainstream consciousness, heralded by the ubiquitous, advert soundtracking single ‘Midnight City’.
In the five years that have elapsed since then, M83 have dabbled in cinematic music, receiving acclaim for their soaring score to the 2013 science fiction film Oblivion and collaborating with Haim on the track ‘Holes in the Sky’, which featured on the soundtrack to The Divergent Series: Insurgent in 2014.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, frontman Anthony Gonzalez described the new record as being ‘quite different from previous albums’, explaining that ‘it’s very epic. There’s a lot of different genres that are not supposed to live together but I tried to make them live together, which is quite challenging’.
