Olly Murs - Cardiff Motorpoint
Initially notable for his appearances on X Factor in 2009, Olly Murs may not have been crowned champion, but went on to prove that you don’t need to be victorious in a talent competition to build a successful, solid career. Four hit albums and a string of hit singles later, few would have predicted he'd still be headlining sold out tours right across the UK.
Prior to the headliner, Ella Eyre - no stranger to performing at big shows having recently sold out Camden’s Roundhouse - opened with hit single ‘Comback’, giving off an energy that was almost as big as her hair. Recent single ‘Gravity’ featuring DJ Fresh did a great job getting the Cardiff crowd fired up and ready for the main event.
As the screams began to rise, the all-ages crowd welcomed Murs to the stage for the second stop of his ‘Never Been Better’ tour and it wasn't long until he had the bank holiday crowd eating out the palm of his hand. It's hard to deny that Murs has become one of our best pop artists, his catalogue a winning mixture of up-tempo tracks and ballads. Live renditions of songs like ‘Heart Skips a Beat’, and the annoyingly catchy ‘Thinking of You’ had the fans going crazy. Arena echoing singalongs came out for the ballads and a heart-wrenching version of ‘Dear Darling’ proved to be one of the night's highlights.
Ending the night with hit single ‘Wrapped Up’ the packed arena was left singing back every single word like their life depended on it before the climactic confetti shower topped the night off.
