The Veronicas - Heaven, London
UK devotees of Australian sister act The Veronicas have had four months to eagerly anticipate the duo's self-titled new album as it originally arrived in Australia last November. The follow up to Hook Me Up is certainly worth the wait - especially as it’s been over seven years since that one hit the shops - with the new material shining bright at the twins' (Lisa and Jessica Origliasso) Heaven headliner.
The sisters haven’t diverted too far from the formula that has made them so successful back home, with feisty pop punk and electro pop the order of the day. New tracks that went down a storm included the rap heavy ‘Did You Miss Me? (I’m A Veronica)’, ‘Cruel’, 'Let Me Out' and ‘Line Of Fire’, with the biggest cheer reserved for a change of pace for the twins: the ballad ‘You Ruin Me’, a song that got to number eight in the UK Singles Chart, giving the girls their biggest UK hit to date.
The Heaven show proved the connection The Veronicas have with their fans, many of whom had managed to view several dates on the current tour, with the pair especially expressing delight in the fact that fans were bringing them drinks to the front of the stage “like it’s a fucking bar!” The duo also expressed their love for London itself, stating it was their favorite city in the world and they were looking for potential suitors, so they could get married and stay in the capital. The only snag being it’s a “two for one deal, if you take one of us you get both". I’m sure that wouldn’t prove too much of a hardship for the audience members so inclined mind you!
Firm favorites made up the rest of the set, with top marks for a pounding pair of ‘Take Me On The Floor and ‘Untouched’, an exquisite stripped down version of ‘Everything I’m Not’, and the track that brought the band to my attention in the first place (‘4Ever’), with the evening ending with another newbie, the uplifting 'If You Love Someone', with Lisa and Jessica draped in flags and surrounded by their adoring audience.
