Enter Shikari - Cardiff Y Pas
It’s been a while since Enter Shikari last performed in Cardiff and, if the roaring trade that the touts are doing outside is any indication, their hefty touring schedule is starting to reap real rewards. Their latest album, The Mindsweep has brought them front covers and Radio 1 airplay. This is their time, and they seem intent on grabbing it with both hands.
Hardcore troupe Feed the Rhino are asked to do the warm up act. Behind the hair and beards there lies a powerful engine, who successfully build a few chaotic-looking circle pits. Last year's The Sound and The Sorrow saw them introduce a few more progressive Deftones-esque elements to their sound but tonight is all about the fury.
‘The Paddington Frisk’ gets the entire crowd jumping and it's not long before Enter Shikari vocalist Rou Reynolds is climbing into the crowd. He might be in a tweed jacket, but this is no polite book group. Sensing the momentum that has slowly built since 2007's debut album, Take To The Skies, there is no sense of complacency or arrogance about this band; they still play every show like it’s their last.
For 75 minutes the Cardiff audience get non-stop electro-metal carnage, with a healthy selection of material drawn from their four albums. Climaxing with a furious ‘Sssnakepit’, you're left thinking that tonight was one the touts called right. Next time they hit town, Enter Shikari need to be playing a venue that can contain both their massive sound - and satisfy the obvious demand.
