Pink Sunshine: August 2014
Oh, pop. Shall we compare thee to a summer's day? Or should we just bang on and have a quick round-up of some of the latest comings and goings in the pop universe, stopping only for a chat with newcomer Harper along the way?
Yes, let's do that.
Paolo Nutini will release 'Iron Sky' as his next single on 1st September, while Chrissie Hynde will release her new single, ‘Down The Wrong Way’, two weeks later.
Stockholm-based recording artist Mapei has announced the release of her debut album, Hey Hey on 22nd September via Columbia Records/Downtown Records. The majority of the album was produced and co-written by Swedish producer Magnus Lidehall (Katy Perry, Sky Ferreira, Britney Spears).
Actor Johnny Partridge, best known for having played the role of Christian Clarke in EastEnders for the past five years, has announced his debut album - ‘Dames, Dudes + Cowboys Too – released 15th September via Big Hand Recordings.
It includes three original songs alongside cover versions, including Jolene (Dolly Parton); Love Runs Out (One Nation); Me and Liza (Rufus Wainwright) and Bite the Hand That Feeds (Nine Inch Nails).
Johnny will be appearing on a new BBC Saturday night entertainment show - Tumble - starting 9th August.
Hilary Duff has released a video for her new track 'Chasing The Sun'. After taking a long break from the music industry, Hilary is currently in the studio finishing up her RCA Records debut, which will be her 5th studio album and is due out later this year.
“I took a break from music for quite awhile, but it gave me the power to choose my next steps carefully and I'm really proud of the album I've made. ‘Chasing The Sun’ is a light and fun summer song that I hope helps people to feel a little more carefree,' states Duff.
Pharrell is back with his third single from his G I R L album - ‘Come Get It Bae’. Pharrell’s long-time friend Miley Cyrus provides some of the backing vocals and makes a cameo appearance in the video.
Bookmakers Paddy Power are taking bets on Wham! re-uniting for next year's Glastonbury Festival.

Leah McFall has debuted her first official single, 'Home'. It follows on from the Northern Irish singer-songwriter's appearance as a finalist on last year's series of The Voice UK and recent feature on Will.I.Am's top 5 hit 'Bang Bang'. 'Home' is out now via Capitol Records.
The ABCs of Pop
New artist Harper has been signed to ICU records and is ready to unleash her debut E.P., Velvet, which is out on 4th August. The track you can hear below, 'Island', was produced by Eagleye, who have worked with Pixie Lott, Laurel, Little Mix and Conor Maynard. We reckon you'll like it, and thus want to find out more about her.
A is for ... Album. Tell us what the debut Harper album sounds like in your head - and what your plans are for the rest of 2014.
The Harper album in my head sounds like a masterpiece! A combination of all my favourite genres and sounds squeezed into one awesome pop record. I like to think myself and the team around me create intelligent pop music and the album will reflect this.
Plans for 2014 are exciting! The year's flown by already but theres more to come, with two music video shoots around the corner and a UK university tour of the Velvet EP. My chance to relive fresher's one last time perhaps?
B is for ... Best Day Ever. What kind of stuff would you want to do on your Best Day Ever?
My best day EVER would kick off with a shopping spree in NY with unlimited funds. Then I'd jet off to a Bey concert, sat front row, sobbing in awe! I'd try to squeeze in a trip to the beach, maybe Miami, Hawaii, and catch some rays with a daiquiri, serenaded by Richie Spice. Finally I'd have to end the day with playing at Glastonbury. To hear the crowd sing my lyrics back to me is the ultimate dream!
C is for ... Character. If you could be a moive character for a day, who would you be - and why?
Well believe it or not, I've actually thought about this before. I would be a hobbit, most probably Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. My inital thought was to go for a superhero but I like the idea of the hobbit being an unassuming hero. You don't expect much from them, then they go and suprise you, something I can definitely relate to. Not too chuffed about the huge hairy feet but that's the price you pay I guess! #LOTRFanTilTheEnd
