SXSW 2014 - Monday - Austin, Texas
South By South West is an industry-based music conference/festival located in Austin, Texas. An average of 2500 bands play over a period of five days so it's a great opportunity to watch the latest "up and coming" acts from around the world alongside more established bands playing slightly more intimate venues than they are used to.
The music side of the festival doesn't start properly until the Wednesday so it's always a joy to find bands playing on the Monday and the re-located Spotify House was the perfect venue to start my gig watching.
Vitamin String Quartet opened proceedings indoors, with their instrumental takes on rock classics, followed by a rowdy set from LA's Holychild. New York band Joywave shook things up on the small outdoor stage, with Liverpool lass Jetta winding up my afternoon with a slightly more soothing sound.

My evening was spent over at the Scoot Inn taking in the Applauze party including a great set from the UK's Charli XCX and a terrific headline performance from electro poppers MS MR, that had me giving their album a spin when I got back to my hotel.
