Ensh - Belgrade EP

When the first song on an EP is a tale of a crackhead, you know you are not in for an easy ride - and so it proves on this debut from Ensh, an electronic artist based in the city that gives its name to the EP.

Across these eight tracks of darkly humorous, glitchy electronica, Ensh manages to steer away from the tired clichés that so many artists operating in this area fail to avoid. The Bjork-like ‘Rantingandraving’ is the pick of the bunch but the otherwise excellent ‘Tourist’ is rather unnecessarily profane. It’s a minor quibble though, as this is a fine debut from a thoughtful artist with much to say. Future explorations will be most welcome.
