Music news round up: w/e 5 October

Bay Area thrashers Machine Head have decided on a new home with the newly launched arm of Nuclear Blast Records, Nuclear Blast Entertainment, headed by the band's long-time friend and former Roadrunner A&R guru Monte Conner. The band will enter the studio in late October to begin recording its eighth album for an early 2014 release, followed by a massive worldwide tour cycle.


Bloodstock Open Air Festival is thrilled to reveal that New Orleans sludgemeisters Down are to headline the Friday night next year. The show will be a UK exclusive. 2014 also sees the pencilled release of Down IV: Part 2, the second in the band’s series of EPs, following last year’s The Purple EP. Tickets for 2014's event are already on sale at an “early bird” price of £115 for a 4-day weekend ticket with camping, now at SeeTickets.


Editors have announced that they will release their new single 'Honesty' on November 18th, as well as revealing that British Sea Power will support them on their upcoming UK tour. Listen to the track below.


With his debut album Lava Dinner (Truestory) out on October 29th, Botany has unveiled a new track from the album. 'Simple Creatures' features vocals from LA singer/songwriter RYAT, and you can listen to it below.


Pet Shop Boys' new single 'Thursday', featuring guest vocals from Example, will be released on November 4th on CD and digital bundle with a 12" to follow. The single will be backed by remixes from Tensnake and Eddie Amador, and two new tracks.


The Killers will release a singles collection on November 11th, featuring tracks from their first four albums as well as two brand new songs. The deluxe edition of Direct Hits will also include the original demo of 'Mr Brightside' and a new remix of 'When You Were Young' by Calvin Harris. There will also be a super deluxe edition available which comes with everything on the deluxe edition, plus a never-before-seen documentary DVD and five 10" vinyls comprising all songs from Direct Hits. Swedish punk duo Vulkano have announced that they will be supporting Kate Nash on her upcoming UK tour, which starts on October 10th. To mark the occasion, they have released a new track 'Spider, Spider', which you can listen to below.
